SCHOOL OF BUSINESS

MAJORS

Management

Many choose the general management major because it provides a comprehensive understanding of management that can take them anywhere. Others choose it because of the opportunity to design their own programs. Some plan to start their own businesses. Our curriculum emphasizes the development of versatile skills that are essential to achieve organization goals: cross-functional thinking, analytical problem-solving, leadership, team work, communication skills, and ethical decision-making.

Career opportunities - Management graduates are sought by employers across a variety of sectors. A global economy is creating a strong demand for managers at all levels, who can do more than just manage. Recent SISFU graduates have moved into careers as managers, educators and program coordinators in fields from real estate and entertainment to hospitality and consumer health products.

Marketing

is considered one of the most exciting and glamorous professions in the business field. Marketing is the implementation of specific philosophies and crucial strategies that guide a company to effectively fill the needs and desires of consumers. Marketing creates the attitude and image portrayed by a company.

Career opportunities are almost limitless for a marketing major. Marketing professionals work in large corporations and small companies, ad and PR agencies, government and consulting. In all, government statistics show about one million persons last year worked in jobs defined as "marketing." Best of all, a career in marketing is anything but a stodgy desk job.

Finance

is designed for students who are interested in the stewardship of the financial resources of individuals, corporations, or financial institutions. As future managers, students learn the principles and applications of financial analysis, management, and strategy. The program equips students with the theoretical understanding and practical skills necessary to evaluate and direct decisions regarding the allocation of financial resources with the goal of maximizing the value of the resources being managed.

Career opportunities - Graduates with Finance Majors find positions in a variety of companies and agencies with duties including analysis, planning and control, capital management, short-term and long-term financing, investment, security analysis and portfolio management. These occupations generally offer attractive starting salaries and working conditions. The future of finance is secure. The need for finance graduates is expected to continue its rise through the next century.

Human Resource Management

With organizations becoming increasingly aware of the need to attract and retain the best people for their workforce, employers are constantly seeking skilled additions to their HR team. Some of the major reasons why people choose a career in HR include: to influence innumerable aspects of the organization, to assist in the development of its employees, and to play a part in influencing strategic business decisions. A business is only as good as its employees, and an organization's employees are only as good as their HR team.

Career opportunities - Whilst there are several specialist roles in HR, including employer branding, HR business partner, and change management, most positions will require you to get involved in multiple functions such as recruitment and selection, training and development, employee relations, contracts of employment, complaints and grievances, employee rights, appraisals, and health and safety.
